Formed in 2004 in Kathmandu, Anuprastha is a rock band known for blending Nepali folk tunes with the driving energy of rock. Their name itself reflects this fusion, with "Anu" meaning "music" and "Prastha" meaning "first" in Sanskrit.
Led by vocalist Niran Shahi, the band has achieved national recognition in Nepal. They've even won the Sprite Band Challenge in 2008. Their music often infuses social commentary alongside catchy melodies.
Anuprastha is more than just a band; they're also advocates for social good. Founder Niran Shahi established the Anuprastha Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to empowering Nepali musicians, promoting Nepali music globally, and supporting underprivileged communities, particularly women, children, and youth, through health and music education initiatives.
